Product Description

Zemer Levav, Pronounced (Ze-m-Air-La-Vav), are the Hebrew words for "Song of the Heart." Blending rhythmic praise and ethnic worship with ancient Biblical instruments, Zemer Levav introduces the listener to a new, fresh and vibrant sound. This Messianic Jewish family of seven worships the Lord with singing & dancing, with the harp & lyre, with flutes & hand drums and with an array of unique instruments. With purity and innocence radiating from this music with a heart for Israel, As Long As I Breathe brings new meaning to the timeless psalms of David, "Let everyone who has breath, praise the Lord!" - Psalm 150:6

Author/Artist Review

Author: Kerah Joy Hanes
Submitted: October 29, 2007

Tell us a little about yourself.  We all believe in Salvation through the Jewish Messiah Yeshua (Jesus). I was born and raised in a Messianic congregation (A gathering of Jewish and Gentile believers in Jesus) I've been singing with my mother and father for fourteen years. (Seven of which I spent assisting them as they lead our home congregation in praise and worship)I'm a co-lead singer, and co-song writer on this album, with My mother Shimrit. I've been writing songs off and on since I was eleven, but nothing serious until I got to be about 17. I'm 20 now. I look back at the road we've traveled and it's a road paved with cramped, broken down vehicles, concerts no one came to, and incredible miracles. I know this is only the beginning for us, we walk the road less traveled. ;)

What was your motivation behind this project?  To share, and to comfort/encourage his people. And also to create something that will (hopefully) be received as refreshingly unique.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  Comfort, peace, hope, and inspiration. I also hope that other musicians who listen to this album will be filled with a desire to write more unique material straight from scripture, there's so much room to stretch out and explore.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  It was my first time working in a studio with professionals. I'll never forget it as long as I live. It was also the first time I've ever contributed material to the band! I learned to accept that God gave me a voice, and that he gave me this gift to share his word with others.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  We have many influences and sources of inspiration, our first and strongest being the sound of our heritage. We are Sephardic. (Which basically means we're Spanish Jews.) So there's a distinguishable Latin flavor that emanates from songs like: "On the wings of the wind" it also peaks out in the percussion, and the melodic Spanish Guitar in songs like: "Door Keeper" and the title track: "As long as I breathe." I grew up listening to Israeli Folk Dance music (Yes, we dance), Israel's Hope, Old school "Lamb", Esta, Ofra Haza, (a little Celtic) Loreena McKennit, and classical, my parents topped that all off with several healthy, heaping, table spoons, of Spanish artists that are heavy on flamenco guitar. Groups like; the Gypsy Kings, Johanas Linsted, and many more...

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  We strive to bring the Messianic and Christian music industries something different. We can only leave you with our promise to keep reaching towards God's will, and hopefully to keep getting better along the way! May God bless you in all your paths.
