Humphreys is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Fellow of the Institute of Physics, and a Fellow of the Institute of Materials. He has been awarded an Honorary D.Sc. by the University of Leicester. He has been president of the Physics section of the British Association for the Advancement of Science. He has published over 400 scientific papers and given plenary lectures at major international conferences throughout the world.
