Publisher's Description

As good as many modern versions are, they often do not allow us to hear what the Holy Spirit actually said.

Overview

How many translations of the Bible are there? How many do we need? Apparently, at least one more, according to Raymond C. Van Leeuwen. The most popular versions of the Bible are influenced by a type of translation called functional equivalence, the effort to make the text understandable to modern hearers. But Van Leeuwen says something is getting lost in the translation.

In this study, we'll examine some of the textual issues he raises. We'll search out what's changing and unchanging about the eternal Word of God. Since we'll be talking about Bible translations, try to have the following on hand: KJV, NKJV, NIV, RSV, NRSV, NLT, and The Living Bible.
